Classic Marinara Sauce

Ingredients(scaled)

  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • ½ small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 cloves garlic, minced
  • ½ can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • ½ tsp dried oregano
  • ½ tsp dried basil
  • ½ 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
  • ½ Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add onions and cook until translucent, about 5 minutes.
  2. Add minced garlic and cook for another 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  3. Pour in the crushed tomatoes and stir well.
  4. Add oregano, basil, red pepper flakes (if using), salt, and pepper. Stir to combine.
  5. Simmer the sauce on low heat for 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens to your desired consistency.
  6. Taste and adjust seasoning as needed.
  7. Use the marinara sauce as a regular pizza sauce or in your favorite Italian dishes.
