Classic French Baguette

- 1 ½ 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- ½ 1/4 cups warm water
- ½ tsp active dry yeast
- ½ 1/2 tsp salt
Instructions
- In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm water and let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Make a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture.
- Stir until the dough starts to come together.
- Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Punch down the dough and divide it into 4 equal portions. Shape each portion into a baguette shape.
- Place the baguettes on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Make diagonal slashes on the top of each baguette.
- Cover the baguettes and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 450°F (230°C).
- Bake the baguettes for 20-25 minutes or until they are golden brown and sound hollow when tapped on the bottom.
- Cool on a wire rack before serving.
